Tidings of Joy Tidings of Joy – 10 December 7.30pm
Watch as the evening begins in darkness as the sounds of drums and song ring out from the distance and the cathedral choirs move through the darkness bringing tidings of joy.
This unique experience brings together the three choirs of Durham Cathedral, including the renowned Durham Cathedral Choir, the voluntary Cathedral Consort of Singers, and the outreach choir, Cathedral Young Singers. Witness this rare moment as they perform together underneath the cathedral’s iconic tower, leading to a crescendo in Ralph Vaughan Williams’s stirring Fantasia on Christmas Carols.
Actors, Charlie Hardwick and Fiona MacPherson of Emmerdale join us to tell the story of Christmas in spoken word and poetry, including classic favourites from Charles Dickens and John Rutter. Experience a show-stopping rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas intermingled with John Julius Norwich’s The Twelve Days of Christmas Correspondence, a hilarious reimagining of the famous carol.
