Meet Saint Bede summer holiday activities

Friday 22 July to Saturday 3 September

Mondays to Saturdays, 10am – 4pm

Meet Saint Bede this summer at Durham Cathedral. Enjoy a season of family-friendly activities to discover the stories of Bede, one of the North East’s most famous monks, and daily life at Durham’s medieval monastery. Get a hands-on experience of the life and skills of medieval monks in family workshops throughout the summer holidays. Each week, have a go at different activities such as dyeing fabrics, making flatbreads, and decorating manuscripts. Visit the museum to explore the story of Saint Bede in a new exhibition, with the opportunity to meet a monk every Tuesday of the summer holidays. Follow a trail around the cathedral to spot Bede the Bear and compare your daily life with the medieval monks in free activity booklets. Take a quiet moment in the reading nook, stocked full of children’s books, or colour in your own manuscript page. Make the most of the summer sunshine using the cathedral’s free trails around Durham’s riverbanks.

Tickets: free, no booking needed
