The Town Hall has been central to Durham’s history since 1350 and has recently opened its doors to the public following refurbishment works. Now everyone can discover its rich history and hidden stories. Learn about the powerful Price Bishops, the evolution of local government and the historic and ongoing roles of the Mayor and the Mayor’s Bodyguard. Since the 14th Century the Trade Guilds and Freemen of Durham have met in the Guildhall, a tradition they continue to this day.
