About Durham Cathedral

Welcome to Durham Cathedral

Take time for reflection and prayer, enjoy a family-friendly day out, and explore history on your doorstep.

Durham Cathedral is a Christian Church of the Anglican Communion and the seat of the Bishop of Durham.

Our foundations were laid in 1093. Nearly one thousand years later they continue as a living place of worship, welcome and hospitality.

The cathedral shop is situated off the west range of the cloister in one of the most remarkable, intact, monastic vaulted undercrofts in the UK.As well as being a must see architectural gem, the shop offers a wide range of locally-sourced, bespoke gifts which reflect the Cathedral’s aims and values.
