For weekend cocktails and live music in pretty surroundings of blossom trees, neon signs and flower walls head to The Butterfly Room, which offers one of the best Pornstar Martinis around. Social butterflies can party into the night at this lively venue which is open every Friday and Saturday.

The party continues over at Players Bar, which is open 7 days a week, playing host to some of the biggest weekly events in Durham. As well as VIP areas, its great atmosphere makes it ideal for cocktail master classes, private events and corporate engagements.

From brunches and lunches through to late night partying, Slug & Lettuce has it all. Newly renovated with a stylish interior, and stylish drinks to match, this is a great venue for date nights to nights out with friends.

Meanwhile, Champagne Bar by Ebony offers one of Durham’s most-sophisticated hospitality experiences with its wide range of non-vintage and vintage Champagnes, as well as more than 40 different cocktails, fine wines, beers and spirits.

Gala Theatre & Cinema

A modern purpose-built space, Gala Theatre & Cinema offers a great experience for all with its accessible shows and screenings.

Each year, the theatre delivers a varied and exciting programme of everything from plays and comedy to live music and its popular pantomime. It is also one of the regular hosts for major events in the city such as Durham Book Festival and BRASS Festival.

Meanwhile, the cinema offers all the latest blockbusters in comfort – at a bargain price, too! All cinema tickets are just £5. No matter what your age, what time of day, or what concessions apply, it’s just £5. Unless of course, you’re a family of FIVE (minimum 2 kids), then all five of you can come for just £20.

Comfort is key here. For example, café staff are trained to be aware of the needs of breast-feeding mothers, and there are baby changing facilities on all levels.

The theatre also hosts relaxed performances of selected shows, designed to welcome audiences who might otherwise feel excluded from live theatre.
