We’re launching a training scheme to help people find jobs in Durham and we want to hear from you

Are you a job hunter looking for employment in Durham City?  Well, we want to hear from you!  For the first time ever, we’re inviting prospective employees of Durham BID Businesses to attend a free workshop to help you up-skill and be matched with potential job roles available in Durham.
Why? The answer is simple really…
BID Businesses across Durham are already using our website to post their job vacancies online.  Through completing the workshop, if you’re deemed to be suitable potential employee, we can then let the BID Business know that you’re a person they may be interested in speaking to about filling the role and arranging an interview.  Essentially, we want the very best people working in Durham and representing the City.
After all, people buy people, and the customer service a visitor receives during their time in Durham – whether it’s an out-of-town visitor coming for a long weekend away or someone living locally spending an hour in the City to run errands – leaves a lasting impression.  We want everyone working in a public-facing role in BID Businesses to be advocates of our great City.
The workshop – called the Durham BID Partnership Programme – will take place on the 24th and 25th August  from 10am, in the Durham BID offices, and will last approximately 90 minutes. During the workshop, you will complete five modules in an interactive learning environment, covering topics including  customer engagement, adding value and the psychology of selling before receiving a certificate of achievement.
Through completing this workshop, not only will you up-skill, you’ll be becoming a fantastic ambassador of Durham City,  learning how to leave a lasting impression on customers for all the right reasons and encouraging people to come back to Durham time and again.  The way people are treated and the customer service they experience really does leave a lasting impression, that’s why it’s so important to get it right.
The workshop has been designed and developed in partnership with Bill Moir – a local man with a proven track record in delivering similar schemes all across the UK.  Bill was first contracted to deliver a training scheme to the different businesses working within Gatwick Airport, helping them to understand that while they worked for individual establishments, they represented the airport as whole, and the visitor experience had an effect on the overall perception and reputation of Gatwick.
Due the scheme’s success, Bill was then contracted to deliver a similar workshop to businesses within the Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex.  Now, he is applying the same principles to the training scheme in Durham, helping people to recognise that while they work for individual businesses, the customer service experience impacts on the City as a whole.
So, if you think you have what it takes to work in a public-facing role while delivering great customer service and being an advocate of Durham City, we want to hear from you.  To register for a place on the workshop, call Adam Deathe, business engagement manager at Durham BID on 0191 384 1212 or email adamdeathe@durhambid.co.uk
At the end of the session you’ll leave with a certificate of achievement while feeling good about the work that you’ll be doing, understanding the value of the customer service experience within the wider business context, and having a real appreciation and passion for working with visitors to Durham City.
